A road sign in Ipswich has been removed after it was found to have an incorrect spelling.

People living in and around Harebell Road in the town noticed that new road signs had been spelt as 'Herebell Road'.

Ipswich Borough Council has confirmed it was due to a manufacturing error.

Phil Smart, Ipswich Borough Council portfolio holder for environment and climate change, said: “We are sorry that one of two new signs in Harebell Road was installed over the weekend with an incorrect spelling.

"This was a printing error by the street nameplate manufacturer and is now being reprinted. The incorrect sign has been taken down until the new sign is ready.”

This is not the first time a road sign with an incorrect spelling has been noticed in Suffolk this year.

Back in March, residents of Kirton were left baffled after a sign pointing towards 'Flexistowe' – as opposed to Felixstowe – was erected in the village.

It later emerged that the new sign had cost in excess of £3,000 to install.
