An application has been put in to extend the temporary permission for a car park on Portman Road, in Ipswich, to continue its use.

Portman Road Car Park B, at the junction of Great Gipping Street and Portman Road, should continue to be used as a long-stay public car park, if the application is approved.

The planning application, made to Ipswich Borough Council to renew the permission for the land, refers to the ground near to the Ipswich Town stadium.

There is potential for the site to be redeveloped in future, according to application documents, in line with the Ipswich Local Plan.

The car park currently provides 130 spaces for cars, 10 for motorcycles, 10 cycle spaces and five disability spaces.

Short stays are also permitted at the car park, which is open 24 hours every day, with charges applying between 8am and 10pm.

There are also plans for a multi-storey car park on the road, to be known as Portman Road C Car Park, submitted to the council in August.
