Police have been granted extra time to question three suspects in connection with a murder probe after a newborn baby was found dead in Ipswich.

A number of police vehicles, including forensics vans, were spotted outside Wilbury House in Norwich Road at about 12.35pm on Saturday.

The building was surrounded by emergency services and a large police cordon was put in place around the property.

A murder probe was launched on Saturday after police confirmed they had discovered the body of a newborn baby.

The death is currently being treated as unexplained and is under investigation.

On Saturday officers arrested two men and a female on suspicion of murder in connection with the incident and remain in police custody.

On Sunday evening, Suffolk police confirmed detectives had applied for a warrant of further detention at Suffolk Magistrates’ Court.

Police have now been granted an extra 21 hours to question the trio.

This is due to expire on Monday evening.

A post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death and formal identification procedures will take place in due course.
