A staff member was threatened with a knife to the throat during an armed robbery at an Ipswich conservative club.

Police are appealing for information after the incident at the Clapgate Lane Conservative Club at about 10.55am on Sunday.

A man, dressed in black and with a face covering, entered the premises and threatened staff with a knife, before making off with a large quantity of cash.

The member of staff remains shaken but not injured.

Club secretary Myra Albins said: "We have CCTV footage of the intruder coming through the door and getting hold of the lady who was working, and apparently went out by the back.

"As she came in the door, he came up behind her, put his arm around her throat, and came in the door with her, threatening her with a knife. She was shaken.

"He was covered from head to foot, you can just about see the eyes on the footage.

"He wiped us out of cash. All the cash we had in the place, apart from maybe a few coins on the floor where the tins had been tipped.

"We have a little bit of money in the bank, but not a lot. It's a case of seeing how we can manage now.

"The company is a social club, so we depend on members and people coming in, which at this time of year there are not many people going out, so we are struggling."

Detectives are appealing for any witnesses to the incident.

They are asking anyone who was driving in the area of Clapgate Lane, Landseer Road and Nacton Road around the time of the incident with a dashcam fitted in their vehicle, to review the footage for any material that may be of assistance.

Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to contact Suffolk police, quoting crime reference number 69767/23.
