A 44-year-old man has been arrested in the town centre on suspicion of carrying an imitation firearm.
A spokesperson for Suffolk police said officers were called just after 9am today to a report that a man had been seen putting what appeared to be a gun in his pocket in Ipswich town centre.
Police detained a man for a search in Lloyds Avenue just under ten minutes later.
An imitation firearm was seized and a man was arrested and taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.
