There were severe delays in and around Ipswich this morning as the Orwell Bridge was closed.
National Highways announced yesterday that the bridge would shut for 24 hours due to forecasted strong winds as a result of Storm Ciarán.
Traffic in and around Ipswich was at a standstill with the town being used as a diversion route for the closure.

A spokesman for National Highways said: "The decision to close the bridge at midnight has been taken to allow road users to plan alternative routes and for National Highways to safely install the closure and diversions ahead of the predicted high winds."
