Everything we know about murder probe in Sutton, Suffolk

On Sunday a 37-year-old man died after being stabbed outside a home in Sutton, near Woodbridge. 

When and where did the stabbing take place?

Emergency services, including the air ambulance, were called to Ipswich Avenue near MOD Woodbridge Rocks Barracks at about 9pm on Sunday. 

Despite the best efforts of paramedics, a 37-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Has there been any arrests?

On Sunday officers detained a 42-year-old man from Ipswich at the scene of the stabbing. 

He was later arrested on suspicion of murder. 

He was taken to Martlesham police station for questioning where he currently remains. 

Was there a cordon in place at the scene of the stabbing?

A large police cordon was put in place and a number of cars and officers were stationed at the scene. 

Part of Ipswich Avenue was closed to the public while officers carried out investigations. 

A white tent was put up outside a house along the road. 

How has the community reacted to the stabbing?

A community leader said the village has been left in "shock" after hearing about the stabbing.

"It is a quiet area on the peninsula and we are deeply concerned, and of course, I am deeply concerned for the wellbeing for the family and friends of the victim and my thoughts and prayers go out to them.

"As a local councillor I am asking anyone who knows anything about the situation to please contact the police.

"It is a very quiet area and a rural community where these things just don't happen and it has come as a great shock to the whole of the community on the peninsula."

One neighbour, a first aider who cares for the elderly, gave the man CPR for 20 minutes before ambulance crews took over, but they were unable to save his life.

Recovery vehicle driver Jim Wallace described hearing "loud banging" which got his attention, adding that the community in that area was very "hands-on" - and quickly rushed to provide support and assistance.

He added: "It is a very safe community and when that disturbance started, they (residents) were very quick in their response and they came in their numbers and they really made their presence known.

"People don't stand back here. They get hands-on."

What have the police said about the incident?

Detectives investigating the stabbing have said they are treating it as an isolated incident and do not believe there to be a wider threat to the public. 

A spokesman for Suffolk police said officers are urging anyone with any information to come forward, including witnesses, those who were driving along Ipswich Avenue either prior to, or just after 9pm.
