A vacant area of land behind Upper Orwell Street in Ipswich town centre could soon become two tower blocks.
Plans have been underway to build flats on the area of scrubland known as Reeves Yard for almost 20 years.
Permission was granted for two tower blocks totalling 12 flats to be built in 2006, but this development never went ahead. In 2016, permission was again sought and granted to create nine flats. However, planning permission expired in February 2020.
Now, Ipswich Borough Council has received further plans, proposing to create two three-storey tower blocks, creating 12 flats, as the original proposal intended.
A Statement of Community Involvement has been prepared by the Woodbridge-based Peter Wells Architects.
It said that agents from Peter Well Architects had been involved in plans for Reeves Yard since 2016.
Since then, it said, argents have had “a number of discussions with Ipswich Borough council, who have expressed that they are keen to see this site developed, as the site is considered to be an eyesore and is known for being an area of anti-social behaviour”.
If granted, two tower blocks of three stories will be built, with a shared courtyard between them, planted with trees and soft landscaping.
Four flats would be created on each floor, nine of these being one-bedroom flats, and the remaining three having two bedrooms.
According to the application form, 24 car parking spaces will be created.
Ipswich Borough Council sets an automatic eight-week target date for a decision on all applications it receives.
This proposal has been given a date of November 28 to be decided by.
