Plans for two new homes in Turret Lane near Ipswich town centre have been refused by the council.

Prior approval to convert the former office building at 2a Turret Lane, by the Old Cattle Market bus station, into two flats was first sought on August 1.

Had the application been approved, a one-bedroom flat complete with a kitchen, bathroom and living space would have been created on the ground floor of the building. The first floor flat would have been allocated two double bedrooms.

However, Ipswich Borough Council refused permission for the plans to go ahead on Monday.

In a notice explaining its decision, the council said that as the building adjoins to the rear of 12 Lower Brook Street, a Grade II listed building, it could not give the conversion permission to go ahead.

The council added that it would also need to see further details as to how much natural light the flats would have.

This is the second application for additional housing to be created in Turret Lane to be refused this year.

In June, plans for nine flats in the three-storey Knapton Court building were rejected, after the council again raised concerns that the homes would not receive enough natural light.
