An affordable housing development in Ipswich has scooped a prestigious award recognising the excellence of the design.
Baylham-based building firm Gipping Construction received the 'Best Small Social Housing Development' award at the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Building Excellence Awards for the 16 flats that have been built in Grimwade Street, Ipswich.

Andy Laflin, joint managing director of Gipping Construction, said: “We are very proud of this latest award which recognises our aim to constantly strive for excellence in all that we do.
"Grimwade Street is one of a number of affordable housing projects we have undertaken and it is so rewarding to deliver not just good quality homes for people in this important sector but to see them bought to life as communities.”

The flats were built for Handford Homes, a subsidiary of Ipswich Borough Council and constructed as two blocks in masonry construction, piled foundation and using a permeable drainage system.
There was an emphasis on external detailing and material choice to ensure the building was in keeping with the surroundings.
