Two men who were involved in a robbery at the home of an 89-year-old Ipswich man have been jailed for a total of eight years.

Three men went to the victim’s home in the Cliff Lane area in the early hours of February 12 this year and two of them had knocked on the door shouting “police ” while the third man waited nearby as a lookout, Ipswich Crown Court.

When the door wasn’t opened by the victim, the men used a brick to smash their way into the house, said Isobel Ascherson, prosecuting.

Once inside the two intruders grabbed the victim by the arm in his bedroom and searched a drawer where he normally kept cash.

When they couldn’t find any money, they demanded to know where the victim kept his cash and were directed to a kitchen drawer where there were some banknotes.
