Ipswich's newest music venue may be given the green light to serve late night refreshments, including alcohol, with 2am being the latest time they have applied for.

Sounds East CIC has applied to Ipswich Borough Council for a new licence application for their newest music venue at St Stephen's Church.

The venue recently opened for the Brighten the Corners Festival, ran by the same team, as it was one of five venues to host live music around the town.

The reformed church, fitted with toilets, lighting, a stage and a bar, has capacity for 225 people.

With more artists performing at the venue, the team has applied for indoor regulated entertainment, late night refreshment and the supply of alcohol on and off the premises.

From Sunday to Tuesday, the licence would be in place from 10am to midnight, while from Wednesday to Saturday the licence would apply from 10am to 2am the following day.

Despite the application being until 2am, Sounds East has said that their normal hours will be until 9pm, if there is no gig finishing at 11pm.

The 2am licence is just to allow them the freedom to use if they have a late DJ event on the odd occasion.

Speaking prior to the opening of the venue, Joe Bailey, CEO of Sounds East and Brighten the Corners, said: "We want friendships to grow here, and to bring something magical to Ipswich."
