A plea has been put out for mourners and military personnel to attend the funeral of a former soldier from Felixstowe.
Ronald Knights died at the age of 90 in Ipswich Hospital on July 7.
Mr Knights, who was affectionately known to many as Ron or ‘Fuzzy’, was known to many people in Felixstowe, where he lived in Mays Court for more than 20 years.
Mr Knights had also served in the armed forces for 12 years. He saw active duty in the Suffolk Regiment, which is now known as the Royal Anglian Regiment.
Mr Knights is not thought to have any family. After his sad death, funeral director David Button was concerned that he might have a public health funeral with no mourners.
Determined that Mr Knights would not set out on his final journey alone, Mr Button called upon the assistance of Jay Lorenz, who has organised many biker escorts for funerals in the past.
Both of them being former servicemen themselves, the pair are hoping that the community will come together to bid this veteran farewell.
They are calling for bikers, veterans, and anyone part of the biking or military community to form a motorcycle procession and a guard of honour, in order to give Mr Knights a fitting send off.
Mr Button said: “Being a former serviceman myself and having served in the Royal Anglian Regiment for a number of years, we feel we owe it to Ron to help arrange the send off he so rightly deserves.
Mr Knight’s funeral will take place at Ipswich Crematorium at 1.15pm on September 27.
