Owners of an historic Ipswich building dating back nearly three centuries are seeking a new occupant for it.

Waterfront House on the town's Wet Dock at Wherry Quay is thought to date back to the late 18th century and started life as a grain warehouse for Home and Chapmans.

Its most recent and longstanding tenant was law firm Ashtons Legal, which has now moved to this paper's old home at Portman House opposite Ipswich Town's Portman Road stadium.

It is being marketed for let exclusively by Penn Commercial, which described the "statement headquarters" building as "iconic".

It contains nearly 2,000m sq of "high quality" office space over six floors, said the agents.

"In 1985, it was acquired by international shipping firm Contship Containerlines and its subsequent conversion into offices – completed in 1987 – created one of the most eye-catching buildings along Ipswich’s popular Waterfront," Penn added.

It includes a board room and presentation suit on the sixth floor with breath-taking views of the waterfront and dock.

Up to 30 car parking spaces are available nearby by separate negotiation.

Penn Commercial managing director Vanessa Penn said the building played a major part in the regeneration of the waterfront area as one of the first to be given a facelift.
