A decision has been taken on appeal to allow the permanent mooring of a restaurant in a boat in Wherry Quay at Ipswich Waterfront.
The appeal was made by Julien Jourdain, a chef from Calais who owns the M. S. Amunda, where he runs The Mariners restaurant.
It came after planning permission was granted for the mooring of the boat in August last year, on condition that this would expire in August 2027.
The reason given was that Ipswich Borough Council could continue to assess the appropriateness of the restaurant and the boat in the character and appearance of the Wet Dock Conservation Area.
The appeal was lodged in January, with documents stating there is no "planning purpose" for the development to be "subject to a series of temporary consents ad infinitum".
The vessel first opened as a restaurant in 1990, where temporary permission was granted for a three-year period.
Since then, only a series of temporary permissions have been allowed.
On appeal, the planning inspector found that the temporary condition was unnecessary to the future character or appearance of the area.
