The rail link between Ipswich and Lowestoft will be closed to carry out emergency works on a bridge.
The East Suffolk line is set to close between the Melton and Wickham Market stations from Sunday, August 20, until the end of the day on Friday, August 25.
This is shorter than the two weeks of work originally planned.
During this period, people travelling between Ipswich and Lowestoft will have to catch a replacement bus from Ipswich to Saxmundham, and a connecting train service from Saxmundham to Lowestoft.
According to Network Rail, this work on the bridge is essential as the existing timbers under the rails are deteriorating. During the project, the old timbers will be fully replaced, with new rails also being installed across the bridge.
Another bus replacement service will run between the two key stations on Sunday, September 3 for other maintenance works on the line.
This is not the first time this line has been closed for maintenance this year. In March and April, passengers had to travel by rail replacement buses whilst work was completed in Martlesham.
Greater Anglia thanks passengers for their patience.
