A driver who was involved in a fatal collision moments after sending a text and a drug dealer who operated in Ipswich are among the criminals jailed in Suffolk this week.
Alexander Martin
Alexander Martin has been jailed for five years after he was involved in a fatal collision that killed 65-year-old cyclist Stephen Lawrence.
Martin, 30, of Tulyar Walk, Newmarket, was unanimously convicted by a jury at Ipswich Crown Court in June after a trial.
The court heard that Martin had been driving his Nissan Qashqai along Newmarket Road in Bury St Edmunds at about 6pm on April 12, 2021 when the collision happened.
During their investigation, detectives established he sent a WhatsApp message at most 34 seconds before he hit the back of Mr Lawrence's bicycle.
Martin was also banned from driving for five years and six months.
Roan Omoworare, Dale Ramsey and Marley Bagley
Roan Omoworare, Dale Ramsey and Marley Bagley have been jailed for their role in supplying drugs.
Omoworare, 30, of Bloomfield Street, Ipswich, played a leading role in dealing cocaine and cannabis, while he was assisted by Ramsey, 32, of Felixstowe Road, Ipswich and Bagley, 27, of Beadon Way, Recorder David Wilson told Ipswich Crown Court.
The trio had denied conspiring to supply drugs between July 2019 and September 2020, but were convicted following a seven-week trial.
Omoworare was jailed for 15 years, Bagley for ten years and Ramsey for seven and a half years less time they have spent on remand or on a curfew.
Lufti Guney
Twenty-six-year-old Lufti Guney has been sentenced to more than five years in jail for running a drugs line in Ipswich.
Guney, of the Rennie Estate in London, operated a line in the Suffolk town between November 2020 and November 2021.
On September 9, 2021, officers carried out a raid at his address in London and seized a mobile phone, SIM cards and a quantity of cash.
Analysis of the devices revealed bulk text messages connected to the sale of class A drugs in Ipswich.
After he pleaded guilty to guilty to two counts of being concerned in supply class A drugs, namely heroin and cocaine, he was jailed for five years and three months.
Kyle Dickson
Kyle Dickson has been jailed for two years after he set up a cannabis farm in a rented house in Lowestoft.
Officers searched a semi-detached house rented by the 31-year-old in Holly Road after they stopped him driving along Camp Road in May 2021.
Inside the house, 215 cannabis plants were found, said Adam Norris, prosecuting.
Dickson admitted producing cannabis between November 30, 2020 and May 4, 2021 and possessing cannabis.
