The owner of a new shop in Sailmakers for selling collector’s items and nerdy memorabilia has said business has got off to a flying start.

The Nerd Hut opened the doors of its new premises on Saturday.

Owner Bridie Burn originally started the business as an online shop before moving to a Microshop in Carr Street in 2021

However, she said she is delighted to now welcome customers into her new, permanent store in the Sailmakers shopping centre.

“It’s nice to have a place of our own,” she said. “One of the best things about the business has always been the community.

“It’s not totally incorrect that nerdy people can be introverted and shy. Now, we have a place where they can come and meet each other, share interests and play games together.”

Some people who have known and loved the shop from its early days have finally met Bridie in person, while others have happened upon the shop for the very first time.

The new shop sells anything from memorabilia from popular television shows such as Supernatural, to collectible items from games such as Warhammer and Dungeons & Dragons.

Bridie said that the shop is now able to offer a wider range of products, which appeal to more of a ‘niche’ audience.

A business owner at just 25 years old, Bridie said she is flattered when people say that her story has inspired them.

“It was always my dream to open this place,” she said. “I always say to people, if you have a dream, go for it, no matter what age you are.”

The Nerd Hut can be found on the upper floor of the Sailmakers shopping centre in Tavern Street.
