Planters located on an Ipswich street will soon be replaced with permanent barriers to restrict drivers from making their way through the estate.

Plans to restrict vehicle access on Jovian Way, just past the junction with Saturn Road, will be implemented next month.

The planters were installed in 2021 following consultation with residents who complained about drivers who had been using the street to avoid the often-busy Sproughton Road and to shop in nearby Morrisons and Aldi stores.

Residents were asked by Suffolk County Council to share their views on whether they would like the trial closure to be permanent.

The results of the survey show support for making the scheme permanent.

381 surveys were issued to residents, with 138 responses received.  67 percent of the responses received were in favour of the scheme being retained.

The work on the permanent barriers will begin on August 7 and continue for up to five days.

A Suffolk Highways spokesperson said: "As a permanent measure, the existing planters will be removed and replaced with bollards and illuminated signs. The kerb line will also be adjusted.

"Every effort will be made to keep noise and disruption to a minimum while work is undertaken.

"Access to businesses and properties may be restricted at times. However, this will be managed by our team on-site."
