The former Fisons factory site in Bramford, near Ipswich, where there have been nine fires in nine years, has been put up for sale.

There have been nine fires at the site since 2014, with the largest happening in May 2019 when the Grade II-listed "North Warehouse" was destroyed.

The nearby residents have been continuously raising concerns about the security of the site and the safety of youngsters who trespass on the former factory.

The 62 acres of land on Paper Mill Lane can be used for mixed-use residential, commercial, community, or leisure development.

In 2014, Mid Suffolk District Council approved plans for 170 homes on the site, but the project has not moved forward.

A spokesperson for Eddisons, the agency dealing with the sale, said: "We see this as a good opportunity to bring forward proposals to infill the former industrial site, which is now not in an attractive position with demolished, burnt-out buildings.

"This is an opportunity to bring forward a redevelopment of the Bramford site, which is a bit of an eyesore in terms of its physical status, and we may soon see the regeneration of this.

"Whatever happens will definitely benefit the area and the beautiful village."

The price of the land owned by Paper Mill Lane Properties will depend on future proposals from interested parties.

Kelvin Dakin, a long-time campaigner for the site, said: "I think that the only way things will progress with the site is by a change of ownership.

"Obviously, a buyer has to be found that will take any development forward, so there is a long way to go as yet.

"In the meantime, the same problems will continue, although I understand the current owners have promised to keep a check on security.

"If this happens, it will be a refreshing change from the situation of the last few years.

"As ever, I just hope that a solution is found that will end the existing problems and lead to some form of useful development."
