The Empire Cinema Group has gone into administration with six sites closing with immediate effect.
The Ipswich branch will remain open for now whilst the joint administrators seek a buyer.
Other sites which will continue trading include Sutton, High Wycombe, and Birmingham.
Tony Nygate, BDO (the administrators) business restructuring partner, said: "The publicised challenges for the leisure sector from the impact of COVID-19, rising inflation, and the cost-of-living crisis have significantly affected the company's business.
"The remaining open sites are continuing to trade while we explore the sale of as much of the business as possible."
Site closures have resulted in 150 redundancies so far.
The Ipswich branch opened in the Buttermarket in 2017 and is the first all-laser projection system in Suffolk and only the second in the UK.
It features the biggest cinema screen in Ipswich.
