A community's hopes of getting their pub back has been given another lifeline as council reject plans submitted to convert it into housing.
The Queen's Head in Erwarton, near Ipswich, will remain as it is for the moment, after Babergh District Council rejected its plan to convert it into a home.
The Grade II listed building opened in 1902 as a pub and has been closed since 2009.
Before the committee meeting on June 28, Erwarton Parish Council strongly objected to the application, with hopes of keeping the pub as a community asset.
An action group, called Save the Erwarton Queen, set up to preserve the pub, said in March when plans were submitted: "This is our pub. We don't want to lose it.
"This is our village and our pub. We care about it and do not want to lose the chance to have it reopen."
The vote was decided by eight votes against the plans, to two in favour.
However, the action group has stated on Facebook that while the 'positive outcome certainly brings us one step closer to saving our pub, we are not out of the woods yet.'
