Ipswich Regent Theatre has announced that it will be charging a restoration levy of £1.50 per ticket to fund a revamp.
The additional cost will be automatically added to all tickets over the price of £10, with the money raised going towards the refurbishment, improvement and upkeep of the theatre.
Ipswich Borough Council said the project will modernise and significantly increase the venue’s toilet provision and include a new onsite changing places facility.
Disabled access will be available through the theatre's entrance foyer.
Sophie Connelly, Ipswich Borough Council portfolio holder for culture and customers, said: "The investment is required to ensure that the facilities are modernised so that customers receive the very best experience."
There are also plans to improve and extend the bar area, which should help with queues, and the Circle Lounge will be fully refurbished.
This follows the refurbishment of the upstairs Circle Lounge and the reinstatement of the original plaster mouldings in November 2014.
Permission was granted for new dressing room facilities, catering, and wardrobe space in 2022.
