Part of the Orwell Bridge will be closed over two nights to allow for repairs to the broken central reservation following a crash. 

Works to fix the damaged central reservation will take place on Thursday and Friday nights, with the 40mph temporary speed limit being lifted once it is complete. 

The crash happened as emergency services, including the air ambulance, were called to the eastbound carriageway of the A14 on the bridge just after 11am on May 9. 

From 8pm on Thursday until 6am on Friday, all eastbound traffic will be diverted off the A14 at junction 55 and one lane of the westbound carriageway will be closed. 

The repairs are expected to take two nights to complete - with the same restrictions due to be in place between Friday evening. 

A temporary speed restriction of 40mph has been in place since the central barrier was badly damaged during the crash. 

Earlier this week, Suffolk Coastal MP Therese Coffey called for the temporary speed limit to be lifted. 

Due to the complexity of the repair, specialist parts were needed which has meant the temporary speed restriction has remained in place for a number of weeks.

This has been for the safety of those using the bridge.

The diversion for those travelling eastbound will take traffic off the A14 at junction 55 and onto A1214 (Colchester Road) and the A12 ahead of rejoining the A14 at junction 58.
