A 34-year-old Felixstowe man who has admitted trying to strangle a woman has been warned he could be jailed when he is sentenced next month.

Before Ipswich Crown Court on Thursday was David Ward of Russell Road, Felixstowe.

At an earlier hearing he admitted offences of assault by beating and intentional strangulation which took place on July 3 last year.

Ward was due to have been sentenced on Thursday, but Judge Nicola Talbot-Hadley said he needed to be legally represented as he could be facing an 18 month jail sentence.

However, she said if there was a good chance of him being rehabilitated it could be possible to pass a suspended prison sentence.

Ward told the court he had not previously served a prison sentence and had a job.

He also said he had been receiving counselling.

Judge Talbot-Hadley adjourned sentence until July 7.

Ward is on conditional bail.
