Dozens of community groups across Ipswich have benefited from a £123,000 boost.

The funding from Ipswich Borough Council focused on projects that make the town a more enjoyable place to live, work and study.

The programmes were also dedicated to protecting the health of the residents and supporting disabled people in the area.

The biggest boost out of 41 community projects was provided to Friends of the Beeches School, Friends of Rushmere Library, and Coplestonians Football Club with more than £4,000 in funding per proposal.

Skate Suffolk, Headway Suffolk, 29th Ipswich Guides, Landseer Road Methodist Church, Rushmere Good Neighbours Scheme, the Murrayside Community Development team and North-West Big Local Trust are also some of the groups that benefited from the council’s backing.

Councillor John Cook, Ipswich Borough Council portfolio holder for communities and sport, said: "Most of these projects enhanced living, working, or studying in Ipswich, with 26 dedicated to health and support for disabled people in our area.

"We have also been able to help secure match funding, during a difficult economic time.

"We look forward to providing further Area Committee support and investment this year for projects supporting Ipswich residents."
