A day of celebration was held at Woodbridge Rugby Club to remember the life and achievements of Woodbridge legend.

People had travelled from far afield including Dubai, Africa and America to celebrate Mike Lubbock, who was one of the founding members of Woodbridge Rugby Club in 1969 and worked at the school for over 40 years.

Mr Lubbock passed away in the early hours of January 11 at the age of 90.

During his long and illustrious career, Mr Lubbock made 95 appearances for Leicester Tigers, as well as working at Woodbridge School for 47 years and then founding Woodbridge RUFC.

On Saturday, April 29, which would have been Mike's 91st birthday, Woodbridge Rugby Club and former Woodbridge School players came together for a game of rugby, reuniting friends and memories of Mike.

Mike's son, Adam, said: "The day went really well.

"It was an incredible turnout and certainly was a celebration."

The former Woodbridge School players were wearing their old shirts, which were modelled on the Leicester Tigers stripes dating back to the 60s.

As well as the rugby match, which was a tight affair between the two sides at the start of the game, with the club coming out on top, there was also a buffet, and speeches from those closest to Mike.

Adam listed off memories his dad had, that many in attendance will have also remembered and reminisc.

Adam said: "My dad would have absolutely loved this occasion."

Leicester Tigers have invited the family back to watch their final home game of the season against Harlequins next weekend, and held a minute's applause for Mike before their game against Northampton.

A minute's applause was also held at Woodbridge Rugby Club ahead of their game against Norwich Union.
