An area near an Ipswich beauty spot is becoming a 'very visible eyesore' say campaigners as they urge for unity in tidying up the town and county.
These photos show rubbish all across the land behind the former church in Star Lane, near Ipswich Waterfront.
Jason Alexander, of Rubbish Walks, is now in the middle of The Great British Spring Clean and runs public litter-picking events every day.
His team has cleared almost 1.5 tonnes of litter and other waste since last Thursday.
Mr Alexander said: “Litter continues to be a problem in Ipswich as it does across the whole of the UK.
“The cordoned off area in the centre of Ipswich is a great example of how quickly litter can build up in areas of high footfall and traffic and become a very visible eyesore.
“As it’s private land, it’s not possible for the numerous litter picking groups around town to get on there and clear it up.
“Many would argue that they shouldn’t have to as the land owner should be taking responsibility for keeping their land litter free.
“We should be doing all we can to encourage people not to drop their rubbish in the first place, including sufficient funding for our litter enforcement team to be out and about enforcing the numerous littering laws.
“I would like to see a unified litter strategy for Ipswich where we bring together the council, local anti-litter groups, businesses and schools to formulate a long-term plan to tackle the problem.”
John West, patron of Clean Up Britain, added: “The litter problem in Suffolk is getting worse.
“I often drive along the A14 and A12 and see the verges covered with rubbish. The B roads are hardly much better.
“Councils in Suffolk are very keen to stress their green credentials but are clearly failing to tackle this ever-growing problem.
“The local authorities have a legal duty to keep our roads clear of litter but are failing to do so."
