An Ipswich theatre group is being given a £15,000 funding boost to give young people in the area every chance of thriving as a "creative person".

The Eastern Angles Young Creatives project is aimed at the 18-25 age group and is non-discriminatory to previous experiences and accessible to newly interested creatives.

The programme hosted by the Eastern Angles Centre will focus on providing space for self-expression and confidence building for the Ipswich youngsters.

The participants will also gain valuable skills in drama, theatre and performing arts as well as work on their creativity.

Carole Jones, Julian Gibbs and Colin Kreidewolf, Westgate Ward councillors at Ipswich Borough Council, said they were “pleased” to support the new Eastern Angles Young Creatives project, as well as provide further funds for the Homework Club that has been operating at the centre.

The creative programme will be curated and led by Jack Tricker, Eastern Angles engagement officer, who has continued to develop all strands of the project for younger age groups over recent months.

Mr Tricker said: “Eastern Angles Young Creatives project has really hit the ground running, seeing a rise in interest from young people in the Westgate Ward and the surrounding areas.

“After brilliant feedback from our parents and young people from our seven-12 programmes, we are thrilled to be able to expand our offer of free creative opportunities to a 13–17-year-old cohort.

“EAYC’s mission is to nurture and develop the skills of the next generation of young creatives and to make sure they have every possibility to thrive in their hometown as a creative person.

“We want to ensure their skills and talent are not lost but instead celebrated and allowing them to enrich Ipswich now and help secure its creative future.”
