Residents of eight flats are understood to have not yet evacauted Cardinal Lofts on Ipswich Waterfront despite the building's freeholder instructing them to leave.
Ipswich Cladiators, a group of leaseholders living in the building, has said some people are yet to leave a week after Grey GR asked them to leave due to fire safety concerns.
The group said in a statement: “We understand why eight out of the 80 flats are currently occupied.
“Despite the known fire risks, it is intolerable to contemplate leaving your home without a guaranteed return date.
“We cannot trust the freeholder to do the work and give us our homes back.
“The building safety crisis is an ongoing nightmare and today’s update has left us with so many questions unanswered.”
On Friday, a letter – which has been seen by this newspaper – was sent to remaining residents of eight flats at Cardinal Lofts claiming that "should residents refuse to evacuate, Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service will issue a Prohibition Order on the entire building".
A spokesman for Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service denied this claim.
The spokesman said: “It has been incorrectly reported that Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) intends to issue a further prohibition notice on all of Cardinal Lofts if residents refuse to evacuate.
“The decision to recommend evacuation on Tuesday, 21st February 2023 was taken solely by Grey GR based on technical advice received and was not an instruction from SFRS.
“We have contacted Grey GR to ask them to clarify the situation with residents and hope they do so shortly.”
