Funding has been requested for street parties and other celebrations across Ipswich for the Coronation of King Charles III in May.

The application asks for each of the town's five Area Committees to be awarded a grant of up to £1,300 for traditional community events within their boundaries.

In 2022, Ipswich Borough Council delivered a successful celebration programme for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, which included a grant scheme for community groups to apply for funding to hold their own events.

It is hoped a similar project can be delivered for the King's Coronation on the weekend of May 6-7 - running in conjunction with Ipswich Central's plan to televise the event on the Cornhill via a large screen.

It is proposed that £1,000 is allocated by each committee - apart from the South West Area Committee where the sum of £1,300 is proposed due to the number of wards.

A maximum of £333 would then be budgeted for each event.

The plans are due to be discussed at a South West Area Committee meeting on Thursday.
