A long-awaited new road linking two key routes in Ipswich will be built much to the delight of community leaders.
A planning application has been approved to build a new road between Europa Way and Bramford Road (B1067).
The link road would make a new two-way road, extending Europa Way past Aldi, to a new opening on Bramford Road.
The roads form a key way into Ipswich on the west of the town, from the A14.
There are also plans for a new mini-roundabout on Bramford Road, with a footway/cycleway.
The site is currently unoccupied land, "fenced off to the general public", according to planning application documents.
The plans would potentially ease congestion on Sproughton Road.
Councillor Sam Murray, Conservative county councillor for Whitehouse and Whitton, said: "I am so happy this has finally been approved.
"It would be so good for the area. It will hopefully reduce the traffic and is the start of well-needed infrastructure in the area.
"I am absolutely delighted it is finally approved. It's been a long process with many people involved.
"I hope it can get started quickly for the residents in the area. The area desperately needs it."
Councillor Lucy Trenchard for Whitehouse (Labour) added that she is also "happy" with the decision.
She added: "I think the link road is a necessary road in the sense that it would take traffic away from a problematic junction, between Sproughton Road and Bramford Road.
"I believe it should make a big difference. There are a number of developments with the potential for increasing traffic coming into Ipswich, and that has the potential to increase traffic along Bramford Road.
"The link road can then be used to access that particular junction. We have good supermarkets there, Morrisons and Aldi, and there are cars parked either side of Sproughton Road.
"It's a shame that it has taken so long to get around to it but I am glad that they have."
The application was approved on Thursday, February 2.
