With rising energy prices and increasing food costs, a number of businesses have closed their doors in Ipswich this month.

Several bars, restaurants and cafés in the Ipswich area have fallen victim to the cost of living crisis in Janaury.

Here is a list of the businesses that closed down this month.

K Bar and Grill

After 13 years of trading in St Nicholas Street, the bar and grill ceased operation on New Year's Day

In a post on Facebook, owners said the "pressures of increased costs" were to blame for the closure.

A drop in footfall and the fact that the majority of their customers are now working from home have had an impact on the business.

The post said: "We have searched every possible way to keep the family together.

"We have had to make the extremely difficult decision to cease trading."

La Cueva

Also located in St Nicholas Street, bosses at La Cueva announced the business would close down after just eight months of operating

The bar and restaurant began trading in mid-April 2022 following an extensive makeover of the building formerly occupied by Zizzi

Owner Louis Van Den Kolk said the utility costs of the business went up by five times.

He added: "We were doing well in the summer, but we had a real drop off in September.

"We managed to build it back up a little, but then November and December hit us really hard.

"Utility bills have put us out of business."

Oasis

The Waterfront bar was forced to close down after the building was repossessed by its landlord.

A notice appeared on Oasis Bar and Lounge on Monday, January 23 claiming locks have been changed "following forfeiture of the lease by peaceable entry".

The bar and restaurant, which opened in August 2022, was refused a licence to sell alcohol three times after concerns were raised by residents and the police about potential disturbances.

Venezuelan Traditional Food

The Wherstead Road restaurant will close down after just eight months of operating after owners said they have seen a drop in customers and a rise in bills.

Diego Andres Sanches Gonzalez, from the restaurant, said: "It is with great sadness that we are announcing that our restaurant and bar will be closing.

"We're very disappointed to be closing after only eight months.

"Rising bills have certainly not helped, but the main issue is that people have been spending less.

"This can probably be attributed to the cost of living crisis, but the patrons just aren't there."

Sunday, January 29 will be the business's last day of operating.

Woodlands Farm Shop & Café

The Hintlesham café announced it will be closing for the final time in January due to rising costs.

The business closed down on January 22 with owners saying it was "no longer sustainable to continue.

A post on the shop's Facebook page read: "Unfortunately we have had to make the hard decision to close woodlands farm shop and cafe.

"The decision wasn’t an easy one to make but due to rising costs within the economy, it’s no longer sustainable for us to continue.

"We want to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported us in this past year."
