Two teenagers have had their first appearance in crown court today accused of murdering an 18-year-old in Ipswich town centre.
Alfie Hammett, 18, of Larkhill Rise, Rushmere St Andrew, and a 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Ipswich Crown Court this afternoon.
It comes after Raymond James Quigley died after after being stabbed in Westgate Street on Tuesday, January 17.
Hammett appeared in person at the hearing on Wednesday, January 25, while his co-defendent appeared live via video link.
They were arrested on Saturday and then charged with murder and possession of a knife in a public place.
No application for bail was made during the crown court hearing, with both teenagers being remanded in custody.
Officers were called at 3.35pm on January 17 to reports that a man had been stabbed in Westgate Street.
Suffolk Police later that evening that a man had died.
The incident happened near JD Sports, the court heard today.
The pair had appeared at Suffolk Magistrates' Court, in Ipswich, on Tuesday, with the case sent to be heard at Ipswich Crown Court.
Suffolk Police named the victim as Raymond James Quigley, known as James, from Wymondham in Norfolk.
A post-mortem examination carried out by a Home Office pathologist revealed that he had suffered four stab wounds to his torso.
His family paid tribute to him this week, saying he "shone as bright as any star" and life will never be the same without him.
Mr Quigley's sister Kathleen, 32, has set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for his funeral.
"He died on the scene in Ipswich," she said. "This has left pain in everyone's hearts and traumatised many, especially my mother, brother, his dad, myself his nephew and nieces.
"Our family will never be the same without him. He shone as bright as any star."
Both teenagers will next appear in the same court on March 15.
