A huge police cordon was put in place in Ipswich town centre earlier on Tuesday after a serious assault.
Police and ambulance crews were seen down Westgate Street at about 4pm.
A spokesman for Suffolk police said police officers were called to reports that a man had been assaulted in the town centre at about 3.35pm on Tuesday.
An eyewitness said a lot of emergency services are in the area and a large police cordon subsequently put in place.
The cordon was outside the former Debenhams building, from the Cornhill to the WH Smith store.
It is understood that the air ambulance was also called to the incident.
The East of England Ambulance Service has been approached for a comment.
Any witnesses are asked to contact Suffolk police on 101 quoting reference CAD 245 of January 17.
