A sports bar and pub in Ipswich reopened its doors recently after undergoing a £40,000 refurbishment, which features a new stage and new TVs.

The Gardeners Arms reopened on January 14, after its brief closure to make renovations to the sports bar to make it more modern.

Included in the renovations were the toilets, a new music stage, bigger TV screens, a new menu and a drinks exchange, which works similarly to the stock market.

The renovations took two weeks to complete and cost between £30,000 and £40,000.

Nicola Emerick, manager of The Gardeners Arms, said: "The reopening went very well.

"People seemed to be really interested in the drink exchange so hopefully that will become a regular thing.

"We are really happy with the look of the place.

"There are still a few bits to do here and there, but on the whole, everyone seemed really impressed with what we had done and really like the look of it."

The pub has set up a new area for watching football on the bigger screens, which, being a sports bar, lended itself well to the Manchester derby that happened on Saturday, ahead of the Ipswich Town home game against Plymouth Argyle.

Nicola said: "It was really busy on Saturday.

"With our matchday deals for home fans, and the Manchester derby, and reopening, it was busy so it was great to see so many people back in."

Saturday was also the first chance for customers to try the new menu and food.

The new stage is a multi-purpose area, with benches being placed on it to use as a seating area, which is also used to watch football.

When they have musicians booked, they remove the benches from the stage.

Nicola continued: "There are a few bits that we are getting sorted, but on the whole, all of the renovations went really well."
