Inspectors have praised an ‘Outstanding’ Ipswich home care service, where diversity is championed and staff “go the extra mile”.
Primary Homecare domiciliary service, based in Norwich Road in Ipswich, has again been rated ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
It was previousy rated ‘Outstanding’ in 2019.
Prema Fairburn-Dorai is the director of Primary Homecare. She said she was delighted with the rating and proud of her team.
“We are ‘Outstanding’ in caring, and that is very evident because my team is a very caring team. We are also very responsive to people’s needs,” she said.
Inspectors visited the service in July of last year, with the report becoming available earlier this week.
It showed that at the time of inspection, there were 99 people receiving personal care from the service.
The report, which was published earlier this week, rated the service ‘Good’ in terms of safety, effectiveness and leadership, and ‘Outstanding’ in the areas of caring and responsive.
Inspectors noted that “there were several special examples of where staff had gone the extra mile to ensure people received a tailor-made service.
“People's life choices were respected, including staff protecting people from being discriminated against, appreciating and championing diversity and ensuring people's privacy and dignity are central to their care.”
Those using the service confirmed that they felt respective, with one person saying that ”they speak to me so nicely and listen to everything”.
Others gave examples of staff explaining their care to them and taking steps to ensure their safety.
One relative told inspectors that the service was “a godsend”, while another said that staff were “efficient and very professional in what they do, and they genuinely like to care”.
Ms Fairburn-Dorai said that this rating was a reflection of the efforts of the whole team.
“We are delighted,” she said. “I think that the greatest achievement is that we have managed to maintain our service to this high quality, which is hard to do.
“It is easier to get an ‘Outstanding’ the first-time round, but to keep it maintained so that you receive the same rating again is harder.
“Our team has worked really hard to make sure that we have kept it going.”
