A 23-year-old man who started working as a drug delivery driver in Ipswich after getting into debt has been jailed for 12 months.
Renaldo Shyti was approached by police as he sat in a Saab in a car park at Suffolk Retail Park on October 8 this year and when officers searched the car they found 22 wraps of cocaine in a sock in the driver’s door pocket, Ipswich Crown Court heard.
An expert estimated that the individual wraps could have been sold in £40 street deals for more than £800, said Benedict Peers, prosecuting.
Shyti told police: “The stuff isn’t mine. Someone forced me to do something.”
When his phone was examined it was found to contain the postcodes of places where he was to deliver drugs.
During police interviews he said he had been homeless and been asked to deliver drugs in Ipswich after he ran up a £5,000 debt.
Shyti, of no fixed address, admitted possessing cocaine with intent to supply.
The court heard that before coming to the UK illegally in August last year Shyti had been training to be a dental technician in Albania and he was now keen to return to his life there.
