Work has started to move beach huts on Felixstowe promenade, with a decision expected on whether to move some of the huts to a new site.
Cranes have begun removing the huts from their current location near Spa Pavilion, with East Suffolk Council having already found new homes for 30 of the 44 huts.
However, today the council’s south area planning committee is due to determine whether the remaining 14 huts should be accommodated at Manor End on a shingle area in front of the sea wall.
Existing huts at Manor End will be moved forward to occupy the front row, with the evicted huts being installed behind, but staggered so owners can still enjoy sea views.
But the plans have attracted 59 objections- mainly over the increased exposure to risk of damage from storms, high tides and tidal surge flooding.
The council is moving the huts because of safety concerns with the stretch of the prom being used by walkers and cyclists, while it was also concerned about the impact on visitors.
