Rainfall is set to continue across Suffolk this afternoon after many roads were left flooded after heavy downpours overnight.

Weather experts have said that downpours will continue across the county for most of the day.

Drivers across Suffolk are being warned of floods and fallen trees as Suffolk Highways staff have been called out to multiple incidents this morning.

Mildenhall police have urged drivers to "drive to the weather conditions" after multiple crashes today.

Adam Dury from the East Anglian-based weather forecaster Weatherquest said: "The rain is to continue for most of the afternoon.

"It is going to break up a little bit as we get through to about 4pm and 5pm.

"By the end of the afternoon most of Suffolk should be turning dry, but then there is going to be rain returning at about 9pm and will continue overnight.

"The rain will be pretty light though throughout the night."

For those attending the Christmas lights turn-on this evening the rain is expected to stop at about 5pm in Ipswich and about 7pm in Bury St Edmunds.
