The builders of a multi-million-pound hotel in Ipswich say they are “under pressure” to complete the work by next month.

Travelodge, a new 99-room hotel near Ipswich Town Football Club stadium, has been under construction since January.

The works are being carried out by JW-G Construction with Ipswich-based firm Haydn Evans on-site as structural engineers.

In May, the on-site engineers said the works were "on track" and the building would be handed over in December.

But now, Steve Sharp, the project manager, said that due to the ongoing constraints in the construction industry, they find themselves “under pressure to meet the programme dates”.

He added: “However, with the help of all our subcontract and local labour and the continued support of Kevin Hughes of Ipswich Town Football Club, we continue to progress and we aim to reach our practical completion date.”

The Russell Road Travelodge hopes to open in early 2023.
