A mum-of-three from Claydon, who loves surprising her neighbours with crocheted post-box toppers has unveiled her latest spooky design.
Lisa Wylie, who has been decorating her village with the beautiful toppers, made her first work in tribute to the death of the Queen.
She said: “It was the death of the Queen that spurred me to make my first topper.
“I wanted to make a tribute that the community could share. I was brave enough to try freehand crochet, where I worked without a pattern and just use the skills I've learnt and my own creativity.
“Now I've got the bug, my Halloween topper is up, and I'm working on something special for Remembrance Day and have lots of ideas for Christmas and beyond.”
Lisa, who has been crocheting for 11 years, was motivated by her grandma.
The 41-year-old said: “When I was expecting my first child, my grandmother handed me a hook and yarn and told me that my baby needed a blanket.
“She taught me one basic stitch and YouTube taught me the rest. I haven't put down a hook since.”
The Claydon resident said that crocheting is more than just a hobby for her.
She added: “I have three children with special needs that require care 24/7 and I myself suffer from anxiety and depression that restricts my daily life.
“Crochet has become a form of therapy. It helps me to focus, concentrate, be mindful and feel pride at my accomplishments.”
Lisa said that she loves making handmade gifts, blankets, clothes and toys for her children.
She has been following the groups where post-box artists present their work and dreamt to become one of them.
Now Lisa proudly shares her projects and is very happy when she can surprise her neighbours with new box toppers.
She said: “People of Claydon, keep your eyes peeled!”
