Redeveloping the “Gateway to the Waterfront” is crucial to the long-term vitality of the area, but there are other key projects that need to be completed.
The “Wine Rack” at Regatta Quay should be finished off within the next two years – developer John Howard has bought the skeletal tower block and is expected to start work on completing the project within the next few months.
It has been Ipswich’s own symbol of the recession for many years.
The Mill development also needs to be completed – the 23 storey tower block still needs to be fitted out internally and repaired externally. The Victorian facade facing the Wet Dock needs to be restored.
Many are frustrated that it is the area closest to the town centre that is still needing investment at the Waterfront.
From the Victorian element of Regatta Quay onwards the redevelopment of the Waterfront is largely complete until walkers reach Neptune Quay and the surface car park beside the James Hehir Building of UCS.
