A campaign to get a bus service in Kesgrave to stop outside the emergency department at Ipswich Hospital has been successful after First Buses agreed to lay on a new route.
Concerns had been raised that the existing bus routes only stopped in Woodbridge Road, causing difficulty for those who struggled to walk to make their appointments.
After a meeting between First and Kesgrave Town Council’s public transport liaison officer, an off-peak service will run between 10am and 2.50pm Monday-Saturday stopping outside the Garrett Anderson Centre.
The new 68 service will run from the Old Cattle Market, via Woodbridge Road, Ipswich Hospital, Main Road, through old Kesgrave, onto Ropes Drive West, Fentons Way and back onto the Main Road.
A spokeswoman from the town council said: “If it proves popular with residents then we would have a basis to go back to First and ask them to extend the operating times.”
