A fundraising pumpkin party was held to celebrate the opening of a pedestrian crossing near to a busy Suffolk junction.
Kiln Farm Nursery, Kesgrave, organised Saturday’s party with pony rides, raffles, stalls and pumpkin carving, raising £358 for St Elizabeth Hospice.
Ruth Goudy, who runs the nursery with husband Paul, said she wanted to celebrate the “wonderful” new crossing on Main Road, as it benefits her customers.
She decided to combine it with a pumpkin party because the plants are popular at the nursery around Halloween and included the charity element “to give something back to the community”.
“It was a chance for people to have fun in the fresh air, celebrate the opening and help a charity, too” she added.
The crossing was funded with £1,776 from Kesgrave Town Council and £30,000 from county councillors Robert Whiting and Christopher Hudson’s budget.
Mr Whiting said the crossing would improve safety and make facilities more accessible adding that Saturday’s celebration was a fitting way to mark its completion.
