IPSWICH'S festive countdown gathered pace today as The Evening Star Christmas tree was put into place on the Cornhill.
Standing at 50ft and covered in 2,200 lights, the tree was chopped down yesterday afternoon and transported from Elveden Farms, near Thetford, this morning.
John and Martin Loades, of Target Animations and Lighting, said they were expecting to spend most of today decorating the tree, culminating with putting a star on the top.
The father and son team, who put lights up around the town, started work on tree at about 6am but were not expecting to finish until around 5pm.
Stuart Atkinson, The Evening Star's newspaper sales promotion and events manager, said: “I'm delighted that the tree is in place helping to make the town feel like Christmas is coming.
“It's a great thing to be involved in every year and it brings a lot of pleasure to a lot of people.”
This is the sixth year they have put the tree up.
