INVESTIGATIONS are under way today after a crash caused a two hour delay on the A14 and injured seven people including three children.The seven people travelling in the Landrover Freelander miraculously emerged with only minor injuries after the car flipped over on the Felixstowe bound carriageway yesterday.

The seven people travelling in the Landrover Freelander miraculously emerged with only minor injuries after the car flipped over on the Felixstowe bound carriageway yesterday.

No other vehicle was involved in the accident, which happened on the Wherstead side of the Orwell Bridge.

One person was taken to hospital on a spinal board by the ambulance service - but after a check-up was not found to be seriously injured.

The others were described as “walking wounded” by ambulance officials with superficial cuts and bruises.

The driver of the car has an Ipswich address and three of the passengers are believed to have been children - although exact ages are not known.

It is not yet known what caused the seven-seat Freelander to overturn and end up on its roof.

The fire service was called to the accident but all the occupants of the vehicle were able to get out without the need to be cut free.

No other vehicle is thought to have been involved in the accident.

A police spokeswoman said it was not clear whether the passengers had been wearing seatbelts, but the fact that the vehicle overturned but they all escaped with only minor injuries suggested correct safety measures has been taken.

The accident happened at about 9.35 pm and the last of the wreckage was removed from the carriageway by 11.48pm.

The Freelander is Landrover's smallest 4x4 vehicle and comes in a five-seat and seven-seat option. It has a very good safety reputation for its occupants - it was recently awarded the maximum five stars by the Euro-NCAP safety organisation.
