Memory

So many, as our three children were raised in Suffolk and we’ve had lots of magical moments here with them . There is one though that stands out as a beacon of local community spirit and big heartedness.

In 2016, on a warm September evening in our field in Kettleburgh we gathered over 40 friends to decorate and kit out two caravans which we towed over to The Jungle in Calais the next day . We had a human chain from the shed storing aid, snaking up to the painted vans and it was a remarkable sight. This event was the beginning of our charity Friends Of Refugees Suffolk (friendsofrefugeessuffolk.co.uk)

Landmark

This has sadly now been demolished due to coastal erosion but it was the striking red and white Orford Lighthouse. We spent lots of happy days with friends and family on the river there with this as a constant backdrop. The iconic twin outlines of Orford Church and Castle seen from the river still lift the spirits though.

Beach

This would have to be Walberswick. Although we seem to visit this less now the children have grown up, the walk over the bridge past the black tarred sheds into the dunes always makes me happy whatever the weather .

Town

We live four miles outside the pretty market town of Framlingham. A trip there on a Saturday is a favourite routine. Whether it's buying vegetables from the open air market in the square, treats from Leo’s Deli or a coffee from The Dancing Goat, it’s always a very sociable affair !

Place to eat

Being the most foodie county in the land we are spoilt for choice.

The pastries and bread from Pump Street Bakery in Orford are delicious and we’ve never been disappointed with supper in The Lighthouse in Aldeburgh. Other restaurants have come and gone but Sam and his team have always been reliably good. During lockdown we were extremely well fed with tasty takeaways by the Korean Kitchen and renowned Greek chef Maria Elia.

Event

As co organiser of The Slow Living Market in Orford (next show Nov 6 and 7 ) this would have to be an annual highlight. Bringing together designers and artisans with a real connection to their craft and then connecting them to visitors is always a joy.

Shop

Not just because the owner is a supportive friend and stockist of my leather accessory collection (doeleather.co.U.K.) The Merchants’ Table in Woodbridge commissions and curates the finest and most unique pieces in this area, and beyond. And I love pottering around charming antique shops like Dix Sept in Woodbridge.
