Roadworks are set to return to a busy Ipswich road for two months from February.

From February 1, Cadent will be completing repairs in Duke Street as part of an investment programme.

The authority said it will be upgrading gas pipes in the area, with the work due to last for at least two months.

“This is a continuation of work we are doing to upgrade some of our ageing gas pipes that are underneath the roads in the local area," a spokesman for Cadent said.

“These are pipes that transport gas to help heat homes, schools, hospitals, offices and other buildings in the local area and beyond.

“It’s all part of a big investment programme, to modernise the gas network – keeping people warm in their homes now and getting the network ready for lower-carbon gases in the future."

While one.network states the road will be closed for the duration of the works, Cadent added it is expected to remain open unless it is necessary.

The spokesman added: “We started works in the Duke Street area last year and paused, at the request of the highways authority, for the Christmas period.

“Our teams are currently on site finishing some remedial works, in preparation for our return to Duke Street on 1st February. We will keep our signage updated as we progress.”
