Little more than 12 hours after Greater Anglia and Network Rail said they hoped to run a full service today, the restrictions that were lifted were effectively re-imposed.
There are no services on the branch lines to Felixstowe or Lowestoft on Wednesday – and restricted services on the main line to London and on cross-country routes from Ipswich to Cambridge and Peterborough.
Greater Anglia advises passengers to check their website before setting off on any journey.
Ipswich Buses suspended its services on Wednesday morning. Routes were not clear enough to run buses, although managers were keeping the situation under review.
A few services did start operating at lunchtime – for instance the Service 13 to Chantry and Tesco – but passengers were advised to check with the company’s Twitter account before trying to catch a bus.
There were also problems with First Eastern Counties services – and other operators were running very restricted routes or had suspended operations.
